I am lucky to have been one of the first to learn to teach perinatal yoga with Françoise Freedman, the inspiring founder of Birthlight. This wonderful method which draws heavily on traditional yoga postures and breath-awareness supported me during my pregnancies and helped me have three beautiful home births.
Birthlight’s wisdom is valuable whatever your or your baby’s birth plans. The techniques help your body remain supple and strong during pregnancy, your mind relaxed and focused, and give you valuable time to connect with your baby in the womb.
Reflexology is also a wonderful treatment when you are pregnant (after 14 weeks) and postnatally. It helps you relax, can relieve minor ailments, prepares you for birth, and assists healing afterwards.
I have found Iyengar yoga to be most effective in helping the body regain stability, tone and strength after birth. Practising yoga as a mother strengthens, nourishes and revives you, and provides very important time just for you.
I qualified with Birthlight in 1999 (antenatal) and 2003 (perinatal). I am also qualified in the Iyengar system to teach ante and post-natal yoga.
When I teach, I like to allow your energy to guide the session. Sometimes you may need nourishing and restoring. Other times we may focus more on birth preparation or on becoming stronger and more energised.
The sessions are tailor-made for you and may incorporate yoga, reflexology, breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation. Between us we will choose what is most appropriate for you.
The sessions take place in my home or yours and cost £75 an hour.
